Engineering Services/DOE:

Radioactive Waste Handling and Treatment

MPR has extensive experience in dealing with high level radioactive wastes in commercial and government facilities. MPR has worked on the design, development and testing of process and equipment used in the handling, treatment, storage and transportation of radioactive waste (low and high level wates in gas, liquid, or solid form). For example, MPR personnel were responsible for the overall operation of the Navy's Expended Core Facility (ECF) in Idaho, where reactor fuel assemblies were destructively tested.

In addition, MPR has prepared design review training courses for liquid radwaste systems and performed technical reviews of uranium extraction systems, including solution mining. We have performed independent safety reviews of waste clean-up techniques for a nuclear weapons plant. MPR has had a key role in developing the reactor based disposition of excess fissile material from weapons.
