Profile Issue #13:

From the Principal Officer's Desk

In the power industry, “Aging Workforce” is an often discussed
catch-phrase. On the positive side, experience of workers is at
an all-time high. But the looming downside is sobering. Within
years a considerable percentage of current workers are projected
to retire, leaving an experience hole in the landscape that will be acutely felt.
Decades ago, MPR’s founders set a course to maintain a balanced
team of youth and experience, by continuously recruiting
young engineers. As a result, average age of our engineers is
below industry norms, and we have young and experienced
engineers working side by side. This Profile reflects that balance.
One of our authors (McHugh) is in her 20s, a mere three years out
of college. A second (Swanner) is in his 30s, with an impressive
list of projects under his belt. A third author (Butler) is in his 40s,
widely respected in his fields for his years of notable work. A
fourth author (Kinsey) is in his 50s, with hardened credentials that
include teaching at the university level. The final author (Graf)
– let’s just say he is comfortably past the half-century mark and
many seek him out for his incisive, experienced view.
