MPR Creates First-Of-A-Kind Pump Modification, Saving Millions of Dollars
Challenge
Davis-Besse HPI pump modifications to increase tolerance to operation with debris-laden water.
Solution
MPR managed, designed, procured, qualified, tested, and installed modifications to the existing pumps to ensure reliable performance in debris laden water service. The qualification program designed and implemented by MPR included separate effects testing of pump component mock-ups, analytical modeling of the modified pump rotordynamic and hydraulic performance, and in-situ testing of the pumps to validate analytical models.
Results
NRC approved the first-of-a-kind modification and Davis-Besse was able to resolve the concern without replacing the pumps, saving millions of dollars.
